OKASOLAR - taking an intelligent look at daylight

OKASOLAR insulating glass is the innovative daylight system that uses fixed slats. An overview of the advantages:

  • More capable, directionally-selective sun protection
  • Good illumination due to controlled natural daylight
  • Homogenous facade look
  • Weather-independent use
  • Good partial through-vision

Exterior view with OKASOLAR-W

Current: The Jewish parish centre in Würzburg “Shalom Europa”

Completed after five years of construction, this was officially opened in October 2006. The complex embodies security on the outside and safety, warmth and atmosphere within - and in doing so creates the ideal back-drop for people to meet and make and consolidate contact with each other.

Space to meet

Predominantly closed facade surfaces dominate the exterior view and allow only solitary possibilities for looking inside and gaining some sort of impression as to the generous transparency to be found inside. Closed all around the outside, the complex comprises several building structures which are grouped around an inner courtyard. Sand-blasted and printed glass was used for the glazed areas. Panels with light-directing lamellas from OKALUX were built in to illuminate the interior.

Light control in the skylight

OKASOLAR-W

The glass front is seamed on the ground an top floors with a narrow clerestory strip with integrated light-directing system. The OKASOLAR solar protective  insulating glass from OKALUX with fixed optical control louvres of mirrored aluminium controls the diffusion of sunlight into the exhibition rooms on the ground floor and into the documentation centre on the top floor. The tree-dimensionally formed, direction-selective mirrored sections are positioned in such a way as to ensure season and daytime-controlled solar protection depending on the angle of incoming light. Light from the bright area near the windows is directed into the room's depth, so that the room itself is uniformly illuminated. We are thinking ahead with architectural glass.
