OKACELL – for a successful balance betweeen energy efficiency and aesthetics.

A large part of the energy consumption in Europe goes on buildings, which is why solutions for the future are in demand. The new OKACELL insulating glazing ensures a successful balance between energy efficiency and aesthetics with photovoltaic modules in the outer-pane of the insulating glass unit. The joint development by OKALUX GmbH and abakus solar AG offers maximum energy exploitation even in the case of only a little sunshine and wins over through highly individual design possibilities. OKACELL makes it possible for the glazing to be fully or partially covered with solar cells. In accordance with this covering and the selected function layers of the glazing, the light transmission values and total solar energy transmittance can be adjusted optimally to the requirements of the building. With U-values of 0.8 W/(m²K) the thermal insulation of OKACELL corresponds to high-value insulating glazing. With electrical power generation, outputs of up to 125 Wp/m² are usually possible.
Solar cells in various models and designs ensure maximum individuality as well as the possibility of combining OKACELL with the complete OKALUX product programme. Apart from green, brown, magenta, gold and silver-grey colours, various hole patterns and sizes and a number of different solar cell types – monocrystalline, polycrystalline, amorphous and micromorphous thin-film modules – are available. Moreover, the distance between the cells can be varied. Furthermore, each solar cells can be connected to individual electronic circuits. This enables the glass, which is available in individually connected into electric circuits, to be optimally adjusted to the architect's wishes. Apart from solar cells, other functional elements can be integrated in the glazing – light direction systems and capillary slabs – for diversified sun protection and an even diffusion of the daylight shining in. For example, high-value digital printing can create a homogeneous appearance of the solar façade in building shell areas which for technical reasons do not permit power to be generated.
Whether installed as insulating glazing or single-glazing on a ventilated façade – OKACELL always makes an optimal integration of photovoltaics into the building envelope and offers great freedom for individual design.
